Tess Phillips takes head government relations role with JC Decaux

Outdoor company JC Decaux has appointed Tess Phillips as director of government and public relations.

The newly created role will see Phillips cover JC Decaux’s ANZ regulatory affairs and corporate public relations, including engagement with industry bodies.

Phillips joins from the Outdoor Media Association (OMA) where she held the role of general manager. She had been with the association since 2015, first as a senior policy adviser before moving into general manager. In 2017, Phillips was promoted to general manager.

Throughout her career, Phillips has gained over a decade of experience in government relations and policy. She’s worked with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship, the Department of Immigration and Border Protection, the Department of Social Services and the Pharmacy Guild of Australia.

JC Decaux Australia and New Zealand CEO, Steve O’Connor, said the appointment reflected the growth of the outdoor business.

“This new role at JC Decaux reflects the size and scale of our business now in Australia and New Zealand and the importance we place on having an active presence with government at all levels,” said O’Connor.

“The out of home industry is growing rapidly, particularly with digitisation, and JC Decaux continues to innovate to help create intelligent cities for the future. Tess brings a wealth of government, policy and out of home experience to the role.”

Commenting on her appointment, Phillips said: “I look forward to bringing to JC Decaux my background in government and policy and the advocacy work I have done for the out of home industry. I am thrilled to work closely with their leadership team and be a part of the many exciting initiatives that JC Decaux has underway.”

Phillips will be on the executive leadership team reporting to chief operating officer Andrew Hines and her role is effective from 1 October 2019.
