Davis was appointed to the magazine in 2016, following Pac Mag’s decision to combine the editor roles of both Girlfriend and Total Girl

Total Girl and another Pac Mags brand K-Zone were subsequently sold to Nextmedia as the publisher looked to refocus its strategy.

Hicks has been with Pacific Magazines since 2011, working with That’s Life as a features writer, health editor, senior features writer and features editor.

Early on in her career, Hicks also completed a stint at the Sydney Morning Herald news desk.

Hicks joins the publisher following the launch of the Girlfriend Movement – a series of bespoke events which seek to support young women. Content planned includes Girl Code, an event for women looking to start careers in technology, Teen Talks, a series of panels on entrepreneurship and overcoming adversity and Move It, a campaign to encourage young women to be healthy.

Louisa Hatfield, general manager for entertainment and family, said Hicks’ “strong journalistic credentials and leadership abilities” made her perfect for the role.

“We are thrilled to have her on board,” Hatfield said.

“With so many current global female crusades, a brand like Girlfriend that supports and empowers young women has never been more vital.”

Hicks added: “Girlfriend has a proud history of making a difference to the young female agenda in Australia and empowering girls to achieve their goals. It’s a privilege to take the country’s biggest multi-platform teen brand forward in 2018.”
