The ABC signs 3-year deal with LeadStory to secure video news content

LeadStory has signed a deal with ABC Australia, securing access to its library of video news content for the next three years, however the content will not appear on Flash despite being in talks with Foxtel about a licensing deal for its content late last year.

LeadStory, an on-demand news streaming platform that launched late last year and released its iOS app last month has attracted a growing, global audience with users across the US, Canada and Australia.

The company had previously accessed a limited amount of ABC content via its partnership with Reuters, but the new arrangement expands that through the ABC Now platform.

LeadStory is co-founded by former broadcast reporter Cameron Price, previously at the Seven Network and Sky News, and software engineer Cheyne Wallace, previously at AirTasker and UpGuard.

LeadStory co-founder & CEO, Cameron Price, said: “We’re delighted to welcome ABC News to LeadStory. Our users demand compelling storytelling on the issues they care about, alongside instant access to breaking news and ABC is a natural choice to provide that”.

LeadStory, that is free-to-use, also allows users to follow top stories from at home and abroad, including the War in Ukraine and soon, the Australian Federal Election.

“We’ve seen how popular Top Stories is with our users wanting to seek out different perspectives of a story from various news outlets to give them ‘full picture’. We expect the upcoming Federal Election campaign will be no different and bringing ABC coverage into the mix is critical for our audience”, said Price.

The world’s first video news aggregator platform brings together news from across the globe, including CNBC, Al Jazeera, Euronews, Bloomberg, Reuters, France24, CBC (Canada), DW News, Ticker News and Fox News.
