The Age appoints Jewel Topsfield as Melbourne editor

Fairfax’s former Indonesia correspondent, Jewel Topsfield, has been appointed The Age’s Melbourne editor.

Topsfield replaces Clay Lucas who becomes a senior reporter at the now-Nine owned masthead.

Prior to taking the Jakarta role in 2015, Topsfield was The Age’s education editor, having previously been the deputy editor of Fairfax’s online opinion site at its launch in 2009.

Revealing Topsfield’s new position, Alex Lavell, editor of The Age, said: “I am delighted to announce that Jewel Topsfield has been appointed our new Melbourne Editor.

“Jewel continues her outstanding career at The Age in one of the most important roles in the newsroom.”

Topsfield started her career with The Advertiser in Adelaide before moving to Victoria to join The Melbourne Times in 2000. After a two-year stint with APP, she joined Fairfax in 2004.
