The Australian launches William Tyrrell podcast series

Fresh off the back of an announcement that Ten would be producing a podcast series investigating the disappearance of William Tyrrell, The Australian has announced its own, to be headed up by Walkley Award-winning journalist Caroline Overington.

The announcement:

From the team behind chart topping investigative podcasts, The Teacher’s Pet and Who the hell is Hamish?, The Australian has today launched its latest podcast investigation, which hopes to uncover more answers in the unsolved disappearance of William Tyrrell who was just three years old when he went missing from foster care in September 2014.

Nowhere Child: Missing William Tyrrell is by Walkley Award-winning investigative journalist Caroline Overington, who has been following the trail of one of Australia’s most baffling missing persons cases.

In her first podcast, Overington delves into a case where notions of class and privilege; opportunity and poverty came crashing together, to create a nightmare for William Tyrrell.

Overington says: “This is a case with a lot of unanswered questions, which left so many people devastated and still, to this day, seeking the truth. Nowhere Child captures the complexity of the case, how William is missed by not one or even two families but by so many people; that mistakes were certainly made, but we need to find him. It’s a case that tore apart the homicide squad, we’ve been searching for five years now with no result. A new emphasis and energy is desperately needed; it’s impossible to imagine a future in which we don’t try to bring justice to William and his family.”

Commenting on the release of the podcast, The Australian’s Editor-in-Chief, Christopher Dore, said: “The success of The Teacher’s Pet, Bowraville and Who the hell is Hamish?, has proved the impact our investigative podcast journalism can have. As one of Australia’s most accomplished journalists and storytellers, Caroline Overington investigates this case with sensitivity and a determination to unearth the truth.”

Managing Director The Australian, NSW & Prestige Titles, Nicholas Gray said: “Our success in podcasting continues to broaden the reach of The Australian into new demographics. I am confident that, with Caroline’s expertise as storyteller, Nowhere Child will also find an engaged audience.”

A new episode will be released each Friday. For more information and to listen to the podcast, please click here.
