The Australian’s media editor Leo Shanahan departs

The editor of The Australian’s media section, Leo Shanahan, has departed the role.

Shanahan started the job in June last year, replacing Darren Davidson who had left in September 2018.

Shanahan has left The Australian

Before his time running the media section, Shanahan had been the chief business reporter of the now defunct Your Money – a joint venture between Nine and News Corp. He’d also previously worked at The Australian before between 2011 and 2016.

At the time of Shanahan’s appointment, editor in chief of the paper Chris Dore said Shanahan brings a wealth of experience to the role.

“We are delighted to welcome Leo Shanahan, one of Australia’s most talented and respected business reporters, as The Australian’s new media editor.

“Leo is an award-winning business journalist who brings a wealth of experience in business and media to this role.”

Shanahan confirmed his departure, and no news was immediately available on plans for the media section’s leadership.

The Australian’s media section has also been edited by Sharri Markson, who remains with News Corp.
