The Brandman Agency launches in Australia
US public relations The Brandman Agency has opened an office in Australia.
The agency, which specialises in luxury travel, already has Thompson Hotels, The Chatwal and The Istanbul Edition, on its local client list.
The Brandman Agency Australia has two staff, and will be run by Susie Westwood as MD – with Juliet Love supporting as account manager. Westwood’s career includes a 20-year stint at Vogue Australia.
Westwood told Mumbrella: “We’re not seeking to become huge here overnight, but we are uniquely positioned in luxury to make a significant stamp on the market.”
The agency was founded by eighth generation Australian Melanie Brandman in 2001 in New York.
Brandman noted: “By expanding the agency to my native Sydney, I feel as if I have finally come full circle in my career. It’s been an incredibly rewarding process. Australia remains one of the most popular travel and tourism locales in the world, not to mention the increasing number of Australians travelling abroad to destinations and hotels that we currently represent. The synergies between the offices and the destinations are too vast to count, and so I’m thrilled to have my long-time friend Susie represent us in Australia.”
What a curious and strangely old-fashioned piece of information: “eighth generation Australian… in New York”. And how is it relevant? It’s some peculiar hang-over from a previous generation of Sydney snobbery; today’s zeitgeist is captured by indiginous heritage not colonial heritage. Or am I mistaken?
