The Geelong Advertiser editor Steele Tallon moves to new role at The Courier Mail

Steele Tallon, editor of The Geelong Advertiser since October 2009, has been appointed as head of news at sister News Limited title The Courier Mail.

Head of news is a new position, with Tallon overseeing news content and digital products. He will be number three in the paper’s editorial hierarchy and report to editor Michael Crutcher.

The Geelong Advertiser is set to announce a replacement for Tallon next week.

The appointment marks a return home for the Queensland journalist who has spent the past four years working in Adelaide and Geelong.

Editor-in-chief of News Queensland, David Fagan, said: “The Courier-Mail has traditionally set the news agenda in Queensland and the creation of this role – along with the transformation of our newsroom structure – will ensure we stay ahead of the game. Steele is a talented journalist, committed to the standards we value. His energy will add value to our products.”

Before The Geelong Advertiser, Tallon was editor of Adelaidenow.com.au. Prior to that, he was deputy editor of The Sunday Mail in Adelaide.

He has also had a stint at Australian Associated Press, and began his career at Quest Newspapers in 1993.
