The General Store appoints first head of retail and design

Reid Nakou has joined independent creative agency The General Store in the newly created role of head of retail and design.

Nakou joins The General Store from his position as design leader, architecture at Scentre Group, which owns Westfield in Australia and New Zealand.

Nakou joined Scentre Group in February 2016. His work at the company includes Westfield Chemside, which was shortlisted for Best Shopping Centre in the World at the 2018 World Architecture Festival.

Matt Newell, CEO and partner at The General Store, said: “Retailers are increasingly looking to reimagine their in-store experiences as customer expectations soar.”

Newell continued: “We are committed to attracting the best talent in the industry so that we can better meet the challenges facing our retail partners.”

On his appointment, Nakou said he’s excited to join the agency because of the “endless opportunities to define and drive the future of retail”.

Earlier this month, The General Store appointed Chris Scott as executive creative director.
