The Grinch claims top spot at weekend box office, earning $2.467m
The Grinch continued to draw crowds at the box office this weekend, as the animated Christmas flick made an additional $2.467m, adding to the $2.757m it made on its preview weekend.
Bohemian Rhapsody continued to perform well for Fox, with the Freddie Mercury biopic pulling in an additional $1.759m on its sixth weekend at the box office.
Creed II was unable to sustain the momentum it saw on its opening weekend, slipping from first place to third as it took $1.642m across 252 screens. The film is the eighth instalment in the Rocky film series, and stars Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone.
Post-apocalyptic adventure film Mortal Engines, which is set in London, hundreds of years after civilisation is destroyed, made $1.351m on its opening weekend.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald continued to topple down the charts, as the film slipped another place to fifth in its fourth weekend at the box office. The latest instalment in the Harry Potter franchise took $1.086m across 389 screens.
Roadshow’s rom com Second Act, starring Jennifer Lopez, failed to crack the $1m mark on its opening weekend, pulling in $979,222 across 303 screens.
Other entrants to the top 20 this weekend included Fox’s Can You Ever Forgive Me?, a biographical comedy drama based on Lee Israel’s 2008 memoir of the same name, and Paramount’s D-Day thriller, Overlord.
