Creed II knocks Fantastic Beasts off the top spot at weekend box office

Warner Bros’ Creed II has knocked Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald off the top spot at the weekend box office, with the sports drama film making $2.985m across 328 screens on its first weekend.

The film is the eighth instalment in the Rocky film series, and stars Michael B. Jordan, Sylvester Stallone and Tessa Thompson.

Coming a close second on its preview weekend was Universal’s 3D-animated version of The Grinch, making $2.757m across 374 screens.

Fox’s Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, continued to draw crowds, collecting $2.499m on its fifth weekend at the box office.

Other new entrants to the top 20 were Indian science fiction action film 2.0, and Louis Theroux’s new documentary about non-monogamous love, Love Without Limits.

Meanwhile A Star is Born featuring Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper and Sam Elliott collected a further $818,541 on its seventh week since release.
