Guardian editor Katharine Viner’s video Hangout
Part one:
Part two:
A month after the launch of the Australian version of The Guardian’s website, the website’s launch editor Katharine Viner was the feature guest in this week’s Mumbrella video hangout.
Viner, who is also deputy editor of the UK newspaper, joined Mumbrella’s Tim Burrowes for a wide ranging discussion covering the launch of The Guardian’s Australian operation, its place in the Australian media landscape, the upcoming federal election and her hopes for the budding online outlet.
If they don’t go behind a paywall they should kill it… That said, I’ve been impressed with the Oz site thus far. I was expecting nauseating, predictable lefty drivel but it’s only been part that.

Can you ask how on earth The Guardian’s ratings managed to go down after the launch of their Australian news sites? From 1.1 to under that last month.

I’m enjoying your newspaper. It’s been a breath of fresh air to read a publication with no discernable editorial agenda driving… What’s lacking, however, is your sport coverage. Often the reports published are from an English perspective which, for an Australian, are quite hard to stomach..

Honestly cant express how delighted I am to log onto your AU version of the site of a day – Im in the process of bedding the daily habit down..!.. There are clearly a few lumps to iron out but please keep going strong and stick it to FFX… As an avid news consumer Its fantastic to have the guardians take in the market place and an alternative view to the voices of the increasingly red topped FFX mastheads …
welcome to Australia, please stick around!

Why do you think left leaning Australians journalists appear loath to look closely at anomalies around Julian Assange? Is it a ‘local boy does good’ kind of thing with people unwilling to address unpalatable issues lest they burst the bubble?
