The Kyle and Jackie O Show jumps back into the Australian Podcast Ranker top five
Australian Radio Network’s (ARN) podcast publisher iHeartPodcast has topped the Australian Podcast Ranker again, delivering 327 active podcasts in June and 8.904m monthly downloads.
ARN also held three of the top four spots, with The Kyle and Jackie O Show pushing back into the top five after dropping into sixth position last month. IHeartPodcast’s Stuff You Should Know again topped the ranker, followed by Casefile, Southern Cross Austereo’s (SCA) Hamish & Andy and News Corp’s From The Newsroom.
Seven new titles appeared in the Top 100 for June, including Nova National News Briefing (Nova), The Totally Football Show with James Richardson (Audioboom), and What The Flux (ARN/iHeartMedia).
ARN’s head of commercial audio and podcasts Corey Layton said the audio business had seen growth across its network, showing audience’s continued demand for entertainment.
“Once again our podcast data is clearly showing the important role audio plays in our audience’s daily lives. Since March we have seen steady growth across entertainment and lifestyle, and news categories as people balance their need to educate themselves with the latest information and entertain with light-hearted content. It’s also not surprising to see the increased popularity of business and finance content as Australians face new economic challenges and opportunities,” said Layton.
“As Australia’s #1 podcast publisher, ARN’s iHeartPodcast Network continues to innovate and expand our reach, providing the best local and global podcasts for both audiences and advertisers alike.”
ARN saw a 12% rise in the demand for entertainment and lifestyle titles and 15% for news across its network. Business and finance was up 30% in listening across June.
Schwartz Media’s 7am narrowly missed the top five, slipping to sixth place, followed by Whooshka’s My Favorite Murder with Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark, Nova’s Kate, Tim and Marty, SCA’s The Howie Games and Audioboom’s No Such Thing As A Fish.
Ben Fordham Live was also a big mover in the Australian Top 100, jumping 22 spots to twelfth place and What The Flux which rose 51 spots to thirty first.
Total downloads of all shows by all participating publishers in the month of June is 40.8m.
I would relish if you could post cable ratings in Aust. Nobody seems interested and Skye shows deserve
publicity for their thin public support but high ego’s

Where’s the ABC? They have more podcasts than any publisher on this list and I’m quite sure some of them would have larger audiences than some of those on this list. Are they not included in these rankings…?

Hi Sammy,
Not all publishers take part in the ranking. The current list includes ARN/iHeartMedia, Southern Cross Austereo, News Corp Australia, Audioboom, Stitcher, Wondery, Nova, Nine Radio, SEN / Crocmedia, Schwartz Media, TOFOP Productions, Kinderling Kids Radio, Australian Radio Network, Wavelength Creative, Wondery, NBC News, and West Australian Newspapers.
I don’t know why the ABC don’t currently take part, but it is possible they are excluded as they aren’t a commercial publisher and the ranking is compiled with Commercial Radio Australia.
Thanks,
Hannah – Mumbrella
One would think that it would benefit all radio players if CRA wasn’t so focussed on the adjective “Commercial”.
Golly gosh, even Think TV includes ABC, SBS and Foxtel now in its broader church.

ABC managing director David Anderson said: “The ABC has confirmed our future involvement in the industry podcast ranker, which we believe will provide clarity to an industry which is in a period of growth and development. The ABC is a major podcast creator and has been for many years. We believe ABC being included in the ranker will contextualise the space overall and provide good insights for our stakeholders into ABC’s work in this area. We are pleased to work once again with CRA on a project to enhance the audio space.”

Thank you very much Mumbrella Archaeologist! I will contact the ABC and see what the hold up is…
