The Monkeys wins Titanium Grand Prix at Cannes Lions

The Monkeys, part of Accenture Song, has won the prestigious Dan Wieden Titanium Grand Prix at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, for its work on the ‘First Digital Nation‘ for the Tuvalu Government.

Marking the second-ever Australian Titanium win, the ‘First Digital Nation’ highlights the urgency of rising sea levels that threaten Tuvalu’s shores.

During a three-minute address at the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference (COP27), Simon Kofe, Minister of Justice, Communication & Foreign Affairs of Tuvalu, announced that due to the ongoing effects of climate change, the nation may eventually be forced to move entirely online.

The video address, created by The Monkeys, provides an example of what a digital future for the nation could look like when, during Kofe’s speech, it was slowly revealed that he was delivering it from a digital islet in the metaverse.

The Monkeys partnered with Collider and Thrive PR on the award-winning work.

Tara Ford, chief creative officer of The Monkeys, said: “Tuvalu has been fighting climate change for over 30 years. Without land, you don’t have a nation. You don’t have a place on the world’s stage.

“Our mission was to help them protect their sovereignty even when the land has gone. We are honored to receive this very special award.”

Mark Green, group CEO and co-founder of the Monkeys, said on LinkedIn: “[This is] a proud moment for The Monkeys and Accenture Song, and a reminder of the challenges facing all of us.”

Tuvalu also picked up a Silver Lion in Sustainable Development, and Bronze Lion in Film.
