The next Milkybar kid is… a blonde boy with blue eyes
In keeping with tradition, the next Milkybar kid to star in ads for Nestlé’s famous white chocolate bar has been revealed as a blonde-haired boy with blue eyes.
Eight year-old Matthew Portas was selected from a shortlist of six girls and four boys to win a part in the next ad campaign to be created by JWT Sydney.
“We opened up this search to all Australians, and it is exciting to have found a winner who not only has the special qualities to come through this audition process but who also embodies Australia in the 21st century,” said Nestlé spokesperson Lisa May.
Portas was selected after a public vote. The search began in March, as parents sent in audition videos of their children using a script from the milkybar website.
I love Milkybar… can’t wait to see the new ad

Just so long as the guys at Coon cheese don’t try crowd-sourcing for the next face of their brand.

“…embodies Australia in the 21st century”
I think it “embodies” Germany in 1939

Tim this headline is a pathetic beat up. The kid is not blonde as you can plainly see on the website. Also Portas if I’m not mistaken is of Italian or Greek origin. Have you joined the PC police?

Hi Gezza,
I checked with PR agency representing the Milkybar kid, and was told that Michael was blonde haired with blue eyes – although from the picture on the website, as you point out, perhaps his hair is a shade darker than that. The headline was not intended as a beat up, but to point out that the choice for Milkybar kid was pretty much in line with tradition.

My daughter, Molly-Rose made it to the top 10, and I can tell you, as I spent time with him during the auditions, that Matthew most definitely IS blonde haired/blue eyed, and an absolute character. He had me in stitches the entire time. I do think though, that it was pretty much pre-determined that he would be the winner and that the entire voting thing was just a marketing ploy. In the lead up to the announcement of the winner, Matthew had HEAPS of media coverage in comparison to all of the other kids who were finalists, and I saw an interview with him that said that he and his family were “quietly confident” that he would be the final winner. Leaves me wondering… But, in saying that, he is a very charismatic kid and a very deserved winner.
