The Population unveils its client list
The Population – which launched last year as one of Australia’s first social media marketing agencies – has revealed a list of its clients for the first time.
The Photon-backed agency, headed by Tony Thomas, formerly a marketer at Diageo, PepsiCo and Ninemsn – opened last October.
It today revealed that its client list includes Foxtel, 7-Eleven, Johnson and Johnson, Footprint Films and Skins.
Its work for Foxtel included programme launches for Fox 8 of The Phone and Football Superstar 2.
For 7-Eleven, The Population is by managing the Slurpee community online to encourage Slurpee fans to celebrate brain-freeze.
Independent film distributor Footprint Films used The Population to manage the launch of Australian film My Year Without Sex. It included a campaign to generate buzz amongst interest groups, prior to the film’s release. The Population is also working on Footprint Films’ release of Lucky Country.
And the agency is also working on a the launch of a new product range for Skins including an “online product outreach program to global sports influencers”.
Thomas said: “We are really excited to be working with such strong clients early on. Our focus has been to prove ourselves through our results and build our client base from there. It’s also exciting to see that a diverse range of clients see the opportunity the social web provides.”
The other two founders of the company were social media specialist Julian Cole and word of mouth specialist Nikki Stammers
It’s always a good sign when your business has got underway so successfully that you don’t have time to develop a website! Well done guys and hope 2009 continues as it’s started.

It’s now clear why they have been silent on the “client list” as it feels like a pretty poor show relative to the “noise” they have made about their capability.
It will be interesting to track them over the next 6-12 months given their backers (Photon Group) recent treatment of unprofitable members of the group, with 200 employees shown the door.
With such a top heavy structure they’ll need more than these projects to turn the profit HQ will be soon demanding.
Sure its an area with potential but how much time will Photon afford the experiment, that is the Population.
