The Project’s 10th birthday draws 437,000 metro viewers

Ten’s panel news and entertainment program The Project – which promotes itself as ‘News delivered differently’ – celebrated 10 years on air on Friday night.

The show ran for an hour and a half, but was split into three segments in OzTAM’s preliminary overnight metro ratings. The 6:30pm segment had 253,000 metro viewers, which climbed to 378,000 at 7:00pm. The final segment had 437,000 metro viewers.

Last week’s Friday night episode had 224,000 at 6:30pm, and 354,000 for the 7:00pm slot.

Last night’s special was Ten’s most-watched program in the metro markets, and also across the country, with the final segment attracting an additional 172,000 regional viewers, taking its total to 609,000.

The Living Room, which was on immediately after, had 374,000 metro viewers, and 560,000 across the country. And the Grant Denyer-fronted Celebrity Name Game, had 201,000 metro viewers in the 6pm slot.

Once again, however, Seven dominated Friday night, with Seven News topping the ratings ladder. 872,000 metro viewers tuned in, which jumped to 1.381m nationally.

Seven also won the entertainment battle, with The Chase Australia securing 553,000 metro viewers, and 896,000 nationally. Better Homes and Gardens had 470,000 in the cities, and 800,000 across the country.

The Friday Night Football on Seven, which featured the AFL clash between the Adelaide Crows and the Essendon Bombers had 567,000 (766,000 nationally). It was most popular in Melbourne, where it screened on Seven’s primary channel, with 291,000 viewers, and Adelaide (146,000). It had just 19,000 in Sydney on 7Mate.

The NRL on Nine featured the Penrith Panthers versus St George Illawarra Dragons match. 302,000 metro viewers tuned in, 201,000 of whom were from Sydney. In the markets in which the match screened on 9Go, Nine screened RBT on its primary channel. RBT had 89,000 metro viewers.

The Women’s Ashes on 9Gem had 84,000 metro viewers, and 132,000 nationally.

Overall, Seven was the clear winner of the night, with a 25.5% audience share. Nine had 15.1%, Ten had 10.9%, and the ABC was just behind on 10.6%. SBS had 6.2%.

The most popular multi-channel was 7Mate with 5.4%, further elevating the Seven Network to a winning 37.5%. Nine Network remained in second on 22.4%. Network Ten had 16.1%, while ABC and SBS were on 13.4% and 10.6% respectively.
