The Renovators in disrepair

The Renovators, Channel Ten’s flagship reality competition since Masterchef finished earlier this week, has received its lowest rating to date.

Clocking in at 668,000, the renovation show has failed to build an audience off the back of Masterchef‘s departure and timeslot of 7.30.

Sunday’s episode, bookended by the Masterchef finale, garnered The Renovators 1.25million. Yet ratings dropped by over 1 million from Masterchef’s 6.30pm (2.33million), only to jump by 1.4million for the Masterchef‘s Winner Announced episode (2.66million).

Monday’s episode recorded 786,000 in the 7.30 slot, the program climbed to 812,000 on Tuesday with a late decision to move it to 8pm, but last night’s return yeilded lower results again.

In a guest post on Encore‘s sister publication, Mumbrella, Channel Ten chief programming officer David Mott said “The audience for big event TV tends to build gradually during the first season, before taking off swiftly during the second season and then levelling off during year three.”

In an interview with Mumbrella, Mott said “there was no plan B” should The Renovators fail.
