Network 10 tight-lipped on the future of The Traitors Australia

Paramount-owned broadcaster 10 is refusing to engage in speculation it may be reviving The Traitors Australia for a third season.

The international format has run for three seasons apiece in the UK and US, based on a Dutch format.

The Dutch original of The Traitors has run to five seasons

Earlier this month, it was confirmed The Traitors NZ would be returning with a new host for a third season, which further fuelled speculation the Australian iteration could also return.

The Traitors Australia was an Endemol Shine Australia production which ran from 2022 to 2023. As Upfronts season draws nearer, fans and industry insiders have questioned whether the format could return, and if so, which network would air it.

10, however, would not be drawn on the speculation, telling Mumbrella on Monday morning: “We look forward to making the 2026 content announcements for both 10 and Paramount+, at our Upfront presentation in the next few months.”

The Traitors Australia’s premiere episode had 257,000 metro viewers on linear television. Its final episode in 2023 had an average of 265,000 metro viewers (369,000 when adding in regional viewers) for the main segment. This climbed to 322,000 metro viewers (454,000 including regional) for the endgame peak. Both seasons are still available online on 10 (formerly 10play).

In an interview with Mumbrella following 10’s Upfronts laying out its content for 2023, including new formats such as The Traitors, Paramount ANZ boss Beverley McGarvey said every show is developed in a different way.

“I think you can’t expect shows to work overnight anymore, I think you have to give shows the chance to grow and give audiences the chance to find them, and if you cancel shows too quickly, it often is not super level because you end up potentially walking away from something that could be really successful. We consider every format in a different way,” she said.

10 described the show as “TV’s deadliest game”, and challenged viewers to identify the ‘Traitors” amongst the cast as they played along at home.

“Twenty players will once again move into a mysterious manor to play a very dangerous game. Among these Faithful lie Traitors willing to lie, cheat and steal their way towards a prize pool of $250,000,” marketing material for Season 2 said.

“If a Traitor can remain undetected and make it all the way to the end of the game, the cash is theirs… but can the Faithful sniff out their deception and unmask the Traitors before it’s too late?

“The game of midnight murders, brutal banishments, and thrilling twists is back and all under the watchful eye of the most deliciously dapper host Rodger Corser.”
