Victorian Government urges friends of abusers to speak out against domestic violence

The Victorian Government is encouraging friends of abusive partners to speak up and say “that’s not okay”.

Created by The Shannon Company, the advertising campaign features friends of abusive partners calling out their disrespectful behaviour even though it makes them uncomfortable.

The two 30 second ads use the tagline ‘Respect Women: Call It Out”.

Ian Forsyth, managing partner at The Shannon Company, said in a statement: “Demeaning women, controlling their lives and finances, trying to stop partners seeing friends or family members, they’re all behaviours that support a culture of violence against women, and we need to all start calling them out.

“The campaign urges men not to silently ignore demeaning behaviour against women, but to simply let their mates and colleagues who go down that path know it’s neither funny nor appropriate, that it’s never ok.”
