Thompson Spencer bolsters media team by three
New Zealand-founded indie agency Thompson Spencer has made several appointments to shape its trans-Tasman media capability, four months after officially launching in Australia.
Former OMD talent Madison Trevella, who is based in Melbourne, will take on the head of media title, while Auckland-based Jake Calder and Libby Frost have joined as media director/futurist and media planner, respectively.
Trevella will focus on building a clear, integrated media offering to connect brand strategy with performance outcomes.

Madison Trevella
She was most recently strategy and client lead at Reason, which merged into Thompson Spencer earlier this year, and has led the Melbourne office since the agency’s Australian launch in April. She has been with the agency since 2021. Prior to that, she spent nearly three years at OMD New Zealand.
Calder, also formerly of OMD as well as MBM, will lead Thompson Spencer’s media innovation and data-driven approach as media director/futurist, tapping into his experience across performance and digital transformation.
He is a former chair of the IAB Programmatic Council and Emerging Tech Council.
“This is the kind of opportunity you say yes to straight away,” Calder said in the release.
“Thompson Spencer has long understood the value of media, and there’s a clear ambition to take it even further.
“Clients are asking for smart, connected media that actually moves the needle – and that’s exactly what we’re continuing to build. I’m excited to help shape what modern media should look like,” he said.

Jake Calder and Libby Frost
Frost joins from Essencemediacom, bringing experience across media strategy, digital planning, and integrated campaign delivery in both agency and client environments. Joining Calder in Auckland, she will support the growth of Thompson Spencer’s media division as a media planner.
Thompson Spencer’s co-CEO, Melanie Spencer, said the agency has experienced significant growth, particularly when it merged with Reason and expanded into Australia.
“Building out our media team is the next step in that journey,” Spencer said in the release.
“Jake, Madison and Libby each bring fresh thinking and proven expertise to help us deliver even greater impact for our clients.”
