‘Three of the best strategic minds in the business’: Wavemaker unveils latest strategy moves
GroupM’s Wavemaker Australia has unveiled three major employee moves to boost its strategic expertise in Melbourne.
The first of these announcements is the moving of Wavemaker Adelaide strategist, Stephen Drawbridge, to the Melbourne office to fill the position of strategy partner. In his fresh gig, Drawbridge is expected to be working with numerous Wavemaker clients in addition to Mondelez.
Prior to his move, Drawbridge spent more than five years at the media agency’s Adelaide office, working with clients including the South Australian Government, Bridgestone and UniSA. The media strategy expert has also completed stints at the Adelaide location for full-service media agency, MEC Australia, and Telstra.
Meanwhile, Kristy Kinzett, head of digital, Melbourne, is stepping into the new position of managing partner – a testament to her work on the L’Oréal account, something that was awarded to Wavemaker in 2021. Moving forward, Kinzett is expected to bolster “integrated digital and performance thinking” on all of the agency’s campaigns.
The final announcement is the promotion of Steve Thornton, seeing the former UK-based Carat and iProspect talent moving up from Mondelez’s planning director to head of planning, Melbourne. In his new position, Thornton will facilitate “the agency’s planning principles across all clients”.

“Promoting from within is a big part of Wavemaker’s culture of positively provoking growth for our people, our business and our clients,” added Peter Vogel, Wavemaker ANZ’s chief executive officer.
“It not only rewards talented and committed people for their hard work, it also benefits our clients by ensuring continuity and the retention of valuable IP.
“In the case of Stephen Drawbridge, Krsity Kinzett and Steve Thornton, we’re incredibly lucky to have three of the best strategic minds in the business – together, they will ensure we are leading the way in our strategic advice to clients and how we are using the latest tools and technology to drive planning outcomes.”
