Tim McDermott shifts from 2UE to DMG

tim mcdermott2UE’s general manager Tim McDermott is to join DMG Radio as its Sydney GM.

McDermott will replace David Borean who departed in August and is now a managing partner at Waterfont Entertainment Marketing.

McDermott was a key player in the relaunch of Fairfax’s talk station 2UE, which saw the arrival of a new generation of presenters. He was voted most popular metro station manager at this year’s commercial radio awards.

At the relaunch at the start of the year, McDermott predicted 2UE it would lift its share from 5.3% to 8.5%. In the last set of ratings from Nielsen, 2UE had a share of 6.1%.

In the new role, McDermott will be GM of Nova 96.9 and Sydney’s 95.3FM which quietly rebranded from Classic Rock earlier this year following its somewhat noisier rebrand from Vega last year.

Before his three years at 2UE, McDermott was group sales director at ARN for four years. He also worked with Austereo, APN Outdoor and sports marketing company IMG.

Kingsley Hall, Chief Operating Officer of DMG Radio, said: “Tim is an incredibly well established media executive and we are fortunate to have secured someone of his high calibre for this senior role. His leadership and drive will ensure our Sydney stations deliver even greater levels of success into 2012 and beyond.”

McDermott said:“I’ve had three great years at 2UE, most recently launching the lineup for 2011. I’m looking forward to a new challenge and a return to FM radio.”

McDermott starts in the new role at the end of January.
