Tinder launches Places trial in Sydney and Brisbane

“New places mean new faces” is the boast of a trial program being run by matchmaking program, Tinder, being rolled out this morning in Sydney, Brisbane and Santiago, Chile.

The trial program offers an opt in feature displaying potential matches who have visited venues the user has been to in the recent past.

The feature, powered by location service Foursquare and mapping platform Mindbox, is intended to help users find matches interested in the same venues.

Samantha Stevens, Tinder’s director of location products, told Mumbrella: “The places we go reflect who we are – our hobbies, interests, and values – and Places is an authentic way of finding matches who share similar interests.

“Our goal is to create more genuine connections and higher quality conversations, and we are excited to hear feedback from our users on the first version of this product.”

As a safety precaution, the service claims the feature will not work in real time with users being tagged 30 minutes after they leave the venue.

The feature will only log social venues, leaving locations such as workplaces, banks and doctor’s surgeries off the list with the blog post announcing the feature saying: “Places is strictly social and tbh, sharing a bank isn’t exactly mind-blowing information.”

Users will also have the ability to remove locations from their Places history and previous Tinder matches made won’t appear in the feature.
