Tonga launches ‘rugby’s maddest fan’ world cup tourism campaign

A tourism campaign for the Kingdom of Tonga is targeting the 85,000 people expected to be going to the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand with a search to find “rugby’s maddest fan.”

The website www.rugbymaddest.com is at the centre of the campaign, which includes a competition the winner of which will get a holiday to Tonga.

“We are hoping the competition and website will generate significant publicity for our associated Rugby World Cup tourism campaign,” said Tonga Tourism CEO Sakopo Lolohea.

“Tonga is rugby mad. We eat, sleep and breath rugby and we are aiming to use our affinity with the game, and our proximity to New Zealand to attract rugby fans from around the globe to come to the Kingdom for short stays during the World Cup”.

Air New Zealand Holidays will be providing packages specially put together for visiting fans, and Rugby World Magazine in the UK – the prime target of the campaign – will be also run the promotion.
