Tony Abbott nominated to Fox Corporation’s board of directors

Former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has been nominated to Fox Corporation’s board of directors in the US, shortly after Rupert Murdoch announced his exit as chairman of both Fox and News Corp last week.

In a statement, Fox Corporation said Abbott will be considered by shareholders in the upcoming 2023 annual meeting. He was nominated alongside tech executive Margaret ‘Peggy’ Johnson.

Two seats on the board will be made vacant by the departure of Jacques Nasser and Anne Dias, who will finish their terms after the meeting.

“I welcome Peggy Johnson and Tony Abbott’s nominations to the Board. They bring skills, experience and perspectives that will contribute to the Board and benefit FOX,” said Lachlan Murdoch, executive chair and CEO of Fox.

In addition to his duties at Fox, Lachlan Murdoch will now also become the sole chairman of News Corp.

Abbott currently has a podcast with his former chief of staff, Peta Credlin, as part of News Corp’s network Sky News Australia, where they tackle contemporary political topics and examine the important issues facing Australians.
