Tony Brown appointed Huawei Australia head of corporate media

Former NBN communications boss Tony Brown has been appointed Huawei Australia’s head of corporate communications.

The appointment follows the Chinese telecommunications manufacturer revamping its public relations functions with the appointment of Candice Lester as head of PR and communications for its Consumer Business Group in January.

Prior to his four and a half years as executive manager for corporate media at NBN Co, Brown had a long background in the telecommunications industry as an analyst with global consultancy companies Ovum and Informa.

In his new role Brown will be responsible for developing Huawei’s corporate media strategy and leading media communications and stakeholder engagement activities.

Jeremy Mitchell, Director of Corporate & Public Affairs said: “We are delighted to welcome Tony and look forward to him helping to build a better understanding of Huawei in the Australian marketplace.

“Huawei has a long and proud record of engagement in Australia and we feel it is critically important Australians are kept informed about the real facts about our company.

“We are totally committed to the Australian market for the long term and we have a great story to tell about the benefits we have already brought to Australia over the past 15years and can continue to bring to the country and we look forward to Tony helping us to do that.”
