From ‘toxic’ junk food to tasty burgers – the versatility of an artist

Dr Mumbo enjoys celebrating the versatility of Australia’s actors and voiceover artists, men and women able to service competing ideas and agendas with equal professionalism.

Viewers of Channel Seven in Perth right now might find themselves doing a double-take as one voiceover actor demonstrates unexpected versatility – though the Heart Foundation in Western Australia may not agree.

Gravel-toned voice-over specialist David Field, one of the most recognisable voices in Australia, features heavily as the narrator of McDonald’s Olympics’ campaign celebrating “Aussie Legends, Olympian or not” through the simple assembly of a burger or in completing an early morning coffee run.

But Field’s celebration of sizzling bacon, eggs, beef patties and hash browns sits in stark contrast to the WA Heart Foundation’s ads on Seven, ‘LiveLighter’, which warns people of the consequences of consuming “toxic fats” through eating too much junk food, with the two ads even running consecutively in some instances.
