Transport for NSW Greater Sydney bus advertising contract goes to tender

Transport for NSW has put the installation and management of advertising its Greater Sydney bus assets to tender.

The NSW transport body intends to appoint one or more contractors, which will be granted a license to utilise the assets for advertising purposes.

Incumbent provider JCDecaux was awarded an additional five years contract for Sydney Buses on ‘improved financial terms’ in August 2017. The company first secured the contract in 1987.

The appointed provider will be required to maintain and develop the bus advertising assets on behalf of Transport for NSW, including the proactive proposition of new advertising strategies, as well as reporting on issues on management, maintenance, development and revenue relating to the assets.

The contract will span multiple areas in the Greater Sydney region, including Central Coast, Hunter, Cumberland/Prospect, Nepean, Northern Sydney, Inner West, South East Sydney, South West Sydney, Illawarra. Excluded from the deal, is the Inner City region,

The tender details stipulates that Transport for NSW requires a contractor that will be “flexible in its approach and adapt to the environment in which [Transport for NSW]’s contracted bus service providers operate”.

Other recently awarded OOH contracts in the Sydney region include the North Sydney street furniture contract held by JCDecaux, the City of Ryde street furniture and outdoor advertising held by oOh Media and the City of Sydney street furniture and outdoor advertising contract held by QMS.

In September, Transport for NSW put the out-of-home contract for the new Sydney Metro City and Southwest contract out to tender as the project nears its 2024 completion date.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said:

“Transport for NSW has gone out to tender for a seven-year contract for TfNSW bus advertising across Sydney Metropolitan, Newcastle, Blue Mountains and Wollongong areas.

“As always, Transport for NSW will evaluate bids that showcase high quality products, sustainability, innovation and value for money.”
