Transport NSW use ‘Opal Man’ to highlight benefits of Opal ticketing system
Transport NSW is promoting its Opal electronic ticketing system in a new ad which compares using the card to first love.
The YouTube videos, created by JWT, feature “Opal Man” and the latest person to fall in love with him who gushes about the benefits of Opal, such as never having to queue for a ticket again.

Coinciding with the launch of the campaign was the announcement that 14 paper ticket types will be retired on the transport network from September 1.
I think many will agree when i say this but not having to queue up for a ticket is not really an advantage. In a world where almost everything needs money i think you’ll find that making it cheaper (for everyone, not just 90% as the transport minister keeps saying) is what will keep customers satisfied.

How come you can buy a train ticket and switch trains, but every time you get on a bus you have to pay another fare. Fix that Gladys.

Hopefully this will not turn out to be like the Myki disaster in Melbourne. My mother went down there and she couldn’t buy a pensioner’s day ticket from a newsagent or convenience store like in Sydney. Instead she had to pay to get a Myki card then pay extra to put a cash balance on it. Not very convenient or cheap for interstate visitors.

What a ridiculous video which doesnt come close to explaning the benefits of using the Opal card over the ticketed system. Lame and somewhat creepy.
Something a 21 year old came up with in a media agency who has only ever heard of You Tube and Facebook? Sad face.

Didn’t JWT win this account? Is this what they made? Wow….

Great advert. engaging, fun & puts some emotion into transport and ticketing … if that ain’t hard what is?
As for queuing – that is a big negative – so Mari, you have too much time on your hands.
As for Just Askin’ – you need to read the Opal website boyo … cause guess what … with Opal when catching buses you don’t have to pay an extra fare … its fixed … so go celebrate by getting an Opal card!!

Wow, Allen, not obvious at all – it costs me $800 a year extra for Opal – that’s worth one queue a year (well, I buy online anyway)
How about Opal man stamps in the face of the regular commuters while taking hundreds of dollars from them because they have the audacity to catch a bus and a train
Might be more realistic then

Allen I didn’t see the 60 minute transfer (shitty website IMHO) but it still works out more expensive than my Travel Ten as I don’t travel five days a week.

@allen you sir are an epic astroturfer.
Imagine the queues of tourists at Circular Quay in Sydney trying to work out wtf they have got to do to be able to take a train / bus and get around this fcked up city (when it comes to transport…) Public transport is a service. Hey ho, car parks are getting cheaper and more bike lanes are being built.
As for this ad: what tripe. Is it just me or has this campaign totally swerved me online? If I look at every bus, train and ferry I would safely say that 80% plus of the commuters are glued to their phones. Why have I not been served up an ad for Opal on my phone?
