ABC to align digital channel Dig Music with Triple J
ABC Radio is seeking to win over music listeners in their 30s and 40s by aligning its digital channel Dig with its youth-focused Triple J.
The move will see a new format for the station aims to win over former Triple J listeners who have grown out of the station.
Presenters will join the station when it is officially relaunched in April following a six month period of audience and industry consultation.
In the meantime shows will be guest presented by musicians such as Moby, Billy Bragg, and Sarah Blasko.
Dig Music content director Meagan Loader said: “Over the last few years there have been many voices calling out for a station like this and the input of those vices during this initial state is hugely valuable. We are so excited to be able to evolve with our listeners and create something truly unique.”
The channel is availablevia the ABC Radio app, online and through a digital radio or TV.

So not content with driving JJJ down to lowest common denominator drivel, now the ABC wants to do the same to Dig? One of the great things about Dig is that you never hear the presenter. Not any more. The other great thing is playlist variety. Not any more. Please please please ABC – it ain’t broken so don’t try and fix it..Or at least don’t try and fix it with your usually narrowly culturally focussed cookie-cutter approach..

Wait, they created a whole new station so that Kingsmill can age gracefully?
Wonder how many worthy/other J veterans are polishing up their air-checks…

Any similarity between this station and BBC digital station 6music is…err..entirely intentional, I expect.

I’ve been listening to it all morning and i might has well have been listening to Triple J.
Absolutely spewing that the format has changed. I loved to chill to DIG but no more.
If I wanted to listen to triple J I would change channels.

I thing DIG were out flanked by SBS Chill,
I think it a good move to aim for a slightly edgier alternative sound & format for the oldies.
The young ones don’t need to listen to St Nick, Bard from Barking & Alt Music from the 70’s & 80’s
• DIG has drifted from “Ambiance” & music Doco’s : its seems that lost out to CHILL & lost it way
(My bias: forgot to turn the JJ on in time to hear the first song but heard the second)

And now they have screwed up a great service of radio for grownups. Now driven by trople J we get track after track of self indulgent JJJ rubish instead of a mix of grown up sophisticated rock, country blues and new music ranging from classic 60’s to 2013. Now its 95% b grade 2 chord repetitive JJJ (at least without the hip hop) And lots and lots of telling us its “powered by JJJ” For f… sake I know what radio station i’m tuned to. If I wanted wankers talking at me I would be elsewhere.

Absolute disaster, no regard was given to dedicated Dig listeners.
Building a better station…..crap!! Its all about Triple J total power trip!
The new format is nothing like the old its just a takeover.
If I wanted Triple J I would have had it on the radio, Dig was a unique station!!
That’s why I listened…..take your drum and beat it!!!
