Tropfest Roughcut symposium to feature local and international filmmakers

Tropfest continues its expansion with the announcement of filmmaker symposium Tropfest Roughcut, taking place on Saturday 18 February, 2012.

The event will feature speakers Charles Randolph, screenwriter and producer of the US film Love and Other Drugs, director Kieran Darcy-Smith whose debut feature Wish You Were Here opens Sundance Film Festival, film editor Jason Ballantine (The Great Gatsby, Wolf Creek) and composer Lisa Gerrard (Gladiator, Heat, Burning Man).

Tropfest founder and director John Polson will also speak about the 20 year history of the festival as well as his experience working both in Australia and overseas as a director and producer.

Polson said: “Roughcut is Tropfest’s continued and determined dedication to nurturing filmmaking in Australia. Tropfest has always been about giving a leg up to emerging filmmakers, so creating Roughcut was a natural and obvious step.”

Tickets are available to anyone with at least one film or television credit.

Tropfest Roughcut will be held in the Domain Theatre at the Art Gallery of NSW.

Sydney’s Tropfest this year will also include a party on the Friday night, musical events on the Saturday evening and Sunday’s main event, the short film screenings in the Domain as well as screenings around Australia.
