Tubby travel agents, jumping up and down
Branded flash mobs are not, as regular readers may recall, something to be encouraged.
So when Dr Mumbo received an email about a flash mob organised by Harvey World Travel, he was not optimistic.
Apparently the 500 Aussie and NZ delegates to the event in Auckland had “secretly learned a dance routine”.
Secret from whom is something of a puzzle to Dr Mumbo, as he can’t see more than 10 or so people watching.
The other puzzle is where the cheering – and indeed whooping – is coming from on the video. Particularly as it goes on long after the crowd has dispersed.
A cynic would think a recording of a much larger crowd had been added in post-production. But Dr Mumbo is not that cynic. Oh no.
Ragging on flash mobs has gotten old Mumbrella.

And yet they keep on coming…

If you’re in need of a cynic Mumbo, I can offer my services pro bono.
Especially on this one. Four minutes of cringe.

I dont want to be negative – but I mean this – this piece of content really wants to make me kill myself. It is just so depressing. OK I’m over reacting a bit but why do people go along with this??

you know what, this would have been nice for the delegates to participate in, it would have been fun and a great distraction from hours of speeches and other dreaded conference activities. and the delegates would have got a warm and fuzzy feeling out of it long after the conference ended.
but, it should have been left at that. the compulsion of people to publish this stuff, or to email mumbrella and “PR” the activity is where these things turn to shite.
this industry continues to crawl up its own arse, dancing all the way……

Guys – WTF!
I participated in this, and whilst it’s not the best flash mob you’ve ever seen, it was FUN!
The theme of our Frontliners conference was “Challenge Yourself” and that’s what we did. Whilst it might not be stuff of experts, it wasn’t meant to be. We just went out there, had a jump around for 4 minutes then went had a laugh about it… which after 9 hours straight of sessions, was sorely needed!
…and seriously, enough to make you kill yourself? you’re a dick.
Lighten up guys – don’t be so bloody negative.

@Corrie that was my point, seemed like fun for the delegates…….the important question is why did someone think this video needed to be sent to marketing media?
that’s the big WTF in all this. The target audience was the participants, job done, it ends there.
just because we can film and publish something, doesn’t mean we should.
