Turbo charges to the top of the box office

Dreamworks-Turbo-Movie-Poster-e1363799392685-1024x646 Dreamworks’ animated feature Turbo topped the Australian box office this weekend taking $1,499,347 across 394 screens, narrowly beating Percy Jackson: The Sea of Monsters which took home $1,409,136 across 381 screens. Both films, distributed locally by Fox, opened this weekend.

Rounding out a school holiday focussed trifecta at the top end of the box office, The Smurfs 2 made $1,237,578 on 413 screens. All three titles beat Disney animation Planes which opened on 397 screens and made just $757,270.

It was a tough weekend at the box office with so many youth-oriented titled jostling for sales. The official opening of Morgan Spurlock’s documentary about One Direction, One Direction: This Is Us was showing on 367 screens but made just $881,305.
