Seven wins quiet night with Highway Patrol as Nine and Ten tie

Highway PatrolIn a quiet night in TV, Seven’s Highway Patrol was the most watched non-news show with an audience of 801,000 as no program managed to crack the 1m viewer mark.

Seven won the night with an audience share of 19.5% , with Ten tying with Nine for second place with an audience share of 14.8% as the ABC settled for a share of 10.5%.

Highway Patrol was the most watched show amongst the 18-49 and 25-54 demographics, out-rating Ten’s Big Bash match between the Brisbane Heat and the Hobart Hurricanes which was the most watched program amongst 16-39 year olds.

The first innings of the match was watched by 535,000 metro viewers, with session two drawing a crowd of 559,000. Numbers from Ten based on OzTam timings put session one’s audience at 566,000 and session two’s audience at 618,000.

Both Highway Patrol and the Big Bash outrated Nine’s Getaway which was watched by 495,000. In the same timeslot, ABC’s 7.30 Summer grabbed an audience of 585,000.

In the 7pm timeslot, Seven’s Border Security – Australia’s Front Line grabbed an audience of 599,000 but was out-rated by A Current Affair which managed to lure an audience of 742,000. ABC News was watched by an audience of 745,000.

In the 8.30pm timeslot, Seven’s Air Crash Investigations was the most watched show grabbing an audience of 599,000 beating Nine’s repeat of Kings Cross ER which only managed an audience of 457,000.

On the ABC, a repeat of QI at 8pm was watched by 578,000.

In news, Nine won the night with 913,000 tuning in at 6pm and 898,000 at 6:30pm. Seven News at 6pm was watched by 727,000 while at 6:30pm the news or Today Tonight grabbed an audience of 727,000.

In the Asian Cup, the game between Qatar and Iran drew a crowd of 69,000 on Fox Sports.

When the secondary channels are accounted for Channel Nine edged out Ten in terms of overall share, securing a total share of 24.2 per cent compared to Ten’s overall share of 23.5 per cent.

The best performing secondary channel was 7TWO with a share of 5.6 per cent after 226,000 metro viewers tuned in for the Sydney International night matches from 7pm.

Nine’s GO! grabbed a share of 5.4 per cent after an episode of The Big Bang Theory was watched by 319,000.
