TV Wrap: Australia vs Argentina tops Sunday programming as Nine celebrates overall share for the first week of summer

Yesterday morning’s broadcast of the FIFA World Cup match between Argentina and Australia on SBS has topped overall programming for Sunday, bringing in 964,000 metro viewers to the network, however it was Nine that dominated in overall share for the evening.

Despite the Socceroo’s loss, SBS director of sport Ken Shipp lauded the match result for SBS, exclaiming that SBS was “thrilled” by the “tremendous audiences” drawn in by the World Cup.

“Football is gaining momentum in Australia and audiences can’t seem to get enough, particularly on our digital platform, SBS On Demand, where replays, mini matches and highlights are performing incredibly well,” he said. “The Socceroos may have bowed out with heads held high, but with many huge matches still to come, we think audience interest will remain strong.”
