TV Wrap: Nine scores a modest weekly win with AO; The Bachelors grapples with key demo

The seventh night of the Australian Open topped Sunday entertainment programs, while Nine won the week ending 21 January, despite a modest share compared to 2022.

Yesterday’s matches on Nine saw Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece) playing against Jannik Sinner (Italy), and Victoria Azarenka against Lin Zhu (China). While the second night session drew in 517,000 metro viewers on Sunday, the first brought in 509,000.

Day seven’s tournament last year saw Australian Ash Barty playing against American Amanda Anisimova, which attracted more than a million metro viewers.

The first week of the Australian Open in 2022 also brought in up to 886,000 metro viewers, while this year’s highest number was 522,000.

In terms of weekly figures, as mentioned, Nine won the network share with 32.6%. The network had a 34% share after the first week of 2022 Australian Open. Seven followed with 28.1% and ABC with 16.6%.

Nine won the primary channel share with 21.7%, followed by Seven with 18.5%.

The next in Sunday overnights was a repeat of Vera on ABC with 411,000 metro viewers, followed by a repeat of Joanna Lumley’s Unseen Adventures on the network, with 368,000 tuning in.

Australian Open’s pre-match and late session on Nine brought in 354,000 and 320,000 metro viewers respectively. They are followed by Seven’s Big Bash League between Perth and Melbourne Renegades, with 308,000 viewers.

Ten’s The Bachelors attracted 275,000 metro audience on Sunday. The show struggled to stick with its key crowd, the 16-39s, as the Australian Open topped the demo and 18-49s on Sunday. However, it was Nine News that won the 25-54s.

The #1 program on Sunday night was Seven News with 801,000 metro viewers, followed by Nine News with 746,000 metro viewers. ABC News brought in a 532,000 metro audience.

Nine network won the overall share on Sunday with 34.8%, followed by Seven with 25.1%, ABC with 17.8% and Ten with 13.2%.

The primary channel winner was Nine with 26.9%, and the top-rated multichannel on Sunday was 7Mate with 3.1%.

In the latest Daily Consolidated Total TV Report for Sunday 15 January, Seven News was the #1 program nationally across linear, with 1.255 million viewers, including 26,000 on BVOD, and an uplift of 2%. The biggest uplift of the week was The Bachelors on Ten with an uplift of 62%, with 163,000 on BVOD nationally.
