Twitter appoints Aussie PR agency

Twitter has appointed independent public relations firm Thrive PR to represent the company’s interests in Australia, Encore can reveal.

The high profile appointment will see the independent public relations firm add Twitter to its roster of clients which already includes Coles, Sunbeam, Nintendo, the AFL and Birds Eye.

The appointment is one of the biggest wins in the history of the 12-year-old agency, which is run by Leilani Abels and employs 35 staff across Sydney and Melbourne.

Twitter is establishing an Australian office following two recent trips Down Under by the company’s senior executives.

The agency’s appointment also comes in the wake of criticism of Twitter’s brand by senior politicians and major media outlets such as The Daily Telegraph.

Twitter told Encore the appointment is unrelated.

“Our goal in bringing on a PR agency is to highlight the amazing ways that Australians are using Twitter to connect with the things they care about,” said Rachel Bremer, a Twitter spokeswoman.

At present Twitter does not have any Australian staff, however, in late-January senior executives were in the country “on a recruiting drive”.
