Twitter confirms Angus Keene as new managing director for ANZ

After almost a year spent acting in the position, Twitter’s Angus Keene has been officially promoted into the managing director role for the platform’s operations in Australia and New Zealand.

Keene first joined Twitter Australia as senior sales executive in 2013, before being promoted to sales director in 2015. Keene held the sales director role for nearly six years, during which he had a brief stint as acting managing director in 2017, before being again moved into the acting role in June 2021, where he has remained since.

As managing director, Keene will report to Yu Sasamoto, Twitter’s vice president of Asia Pacific, and will be responsible for continuing and accelerating Twitter’s revenue growth across Australia and New Zealand.

Keene brings over 20 years of experience in in sales, marketing, and media, and was earlier this year he was also appointed as chair of the IAB Executive Tech Council and and representative for the council on the IAB Australia Board.

As one of the founding members of Twitter Australia, Keene has been instrumental in leading the overall sales strategy, and revenue for the service. Prior to Twitter, he worked at Fairfax Media for more than six years.

Jonathan Munschi will fill Keene’s vacant role, having joined Twitter Australia earlier this year as head of sales. With extensive expertise and experience in the media industry, Jonathan will work closely with Twitter ANZ head of agency, Emily Foat.

Yu Sasamoto said of the appointment: “We are thrilled to have Angus lead our revenue growth, and continue to lead Twitter on the right growth path in Australia and New Zealand. Throughout his career, Angus has demonstrated his ability to successfully transform teams, and businesses. I am confident that through Angus’ leadership and guidance, we will see our client and partner relationships grow even more.”

Keene added: “I am grateful and excited for this opportunity. With Yu’s leadership, and the collaboration with the local team, I look forward to building on the momentum behind our business, and the opportunity to showcase Twitter’s values to help brands stay connected with their audience.”

The appointment comes in the wake of the recent news that Twitter is set to bought out by stakeholder Elon Musk, who last week had his offer, worth approximately US$44 billion (A$61.4 billion), accepted by the platform’s board, pending approval from stakeholders and regulators.

The news was followed by the release of Twitter’s Q1 2022 financial results, which were up 16% year on year.
