UM hires BWM’s David Hearn as head of strategy

UM has hired David Hearn from BWM as head of strategy.

The announcement:

March 12, 2013: UM is announcing a new senior hire at the network’s expanding Melbourne office, naming David Hearn as Melbourne head of strategy, a new position. He will report jointly to UM Melbourne managing director Kim Lion and UM’s national chief strategy officer, Stefan Burford.

Hearn has 13 years of industry experience. Prior to joining UM he was head of planning at BWM Melbourne.

“This is a new and important role at UM Melbourne and reflects our focus on building the most strategically capable media agency in the market,” said Burford. “David is a highly experienced and awarded professional who has an outstanding track record in delivering high-quality insights and exciting strategic thinking to clients.”

Prior to BWM, Hearn had a nine-year career with Carat in Australia and the UK. He was Carat Melbourne’s strategy and insights director and is credited with helping to lead much of the agency’s business development.

Kim Lion, who was appointed managing director of UM Melbourne in January this year, said Hearn would bring senior experience to the agency. “I am looking forward to having David’s strategic and creative thinking at the agency.  He will have a significant impact on our future capabilities,’ said Lion.

Hearn joins UM Melbourne tomorrow, March 13.
