UM hires London planner Tom Dodd for strategy role
Media agency UM has hired Tom Dodd as associate strategy director in its Sydney office.
Dodd was previously communications director at MEC London where he led planning across clients including Lionsgate Films, Colgate, Sony Ericsson and whiskey brand The Famous Grouse. Prior to MEC he was a communications planner at the UK’s Goodstuff Communications.
He will work on brands including MasterCard and Brown Forman and report to UM national chief strategy officer Stefan Burford.
Burford said: “We are very excited to have someone of Tom’s talent onboard to be part of the team.”
Dodd starts on Monday.
I wonder if this Turkey realises he’s not gonna get his Pom bonus (LAFHA) ad infinitum?

There was no Aussie who could do this job?

JayZ – Australians are also eligible for LAFHA. If you’re gonna take a swipe, do your homework first

I know plenty of talented Aussies who could do this role. Incidentally, I was talking with a recruiter friend of mine over a beer just last week. He said that media agency clients will only talk to UK people for senior roles, and that “Aussies don’t have a chance in hell”.

Unfortunately none were qualified. They needed someone who could hit the ground running, communicate immediately, have an established network of industry contacts at sales and agency level and most importantly speak the language
Obviously the appointee had to be from the centre of the Media universe, England.

@Trevor
You are sitting on quite a gold mine – Australian candidates for strategy roles – you should start a recruitment agency!
Quite frankly, you are talking complete crap. Every agency I know would prefer to hire home grown talent as opposed to the imported stuff. Sad reality is there simply isn’t enough to go around.
Judging by your comments you clearly don’t work in an agency or have any idea about the desire for management to have Australian accents in a pitch instead of British.

Seriously – whatever happened to wishing someone well in a new role? Pretty negative comments.

@Kristy and You’re kidding, I agree entirely.
For one, in my experience agencies usually prefer to take home grown if they can. Two, just be happy for the guy and welcome him to Australia! You all sound like a bunch of jealous 5 year olds.
