UN Global Compact Network Australia taps Third Hemisphere as new PR partner

Specialist climate, tech and finance PR agency, Third Hemisphere, has been selected as the PR partner for the UN Global Compact Network Australia (UNGCNA), the Australian arm of the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, Mumbrella can reveal.

As a special initiative of the UN Secretary-General, the global network spans 160 countries, 69 local networks, over 20,000 participating businesses and 3,800 non-business organisations.

Locally, it aims to mobilise the Australian business community to create a sustainable future across two main frameworks – the UN Global Compact’s Ten Principles on human rights, environment, and anti-corruption, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals which focus on collaboration and innovation.

Third Hemisphere will first represent UNGCNA at its two-day UNiting Business LIVE Australia: Sustainability in Action conference in October, and will use its expertise in the sustainability and DE&I space to boost UNGCNA’s efforts further.

Managing director of the agency, Jeremy Liddle, has previously worked with the UN on various projects, including the UN Development Programme, the UN Interagency Network on Youth Development, and the formation of the Sustainability Development Goals.

Meanwhile, founder and chief executive of Third Hemisphere, Hannah Moreno, will use her expertise as an outspoken DE&I advocate and specialism in social impact to assist the sustainability initiative.

“Corporate leaders who believe in a more sustainable future must lead from the front, and publicly implement and advocate for improved sustainability and social justice practices,” Moreno said.

“Supporting these businesses was a driving force behind why I founded Third Hemisphere in the first place, so I’m excited and honoured to now be working with an organisation that targets this type of action from Australian businesses en masse.”

UNGCNA’s executive director, Kate Dundas, added: “We’re excited to have Third Hemisphere on board as a PR partner, particularly in the lead-up to our flagship major conference and a visit from Assistant Secretary-General and CEO of the United Nations Global Compact, Sanda Ojiambo.

“We look forward to catalysing tangible action towards a more sustainable future.”

In March, the UNGCNA announced it would launch a new anti-greenwashing course for marketers and communicators, in collaboration with sustainability consultancy, Salterbaxter.

The course was designed to cover aspects such as the foundations of sustainability; how to identify examples of greenwashing; and ways to talk to others in your business about greenwashing, and how to avoid it.

Meanwhile, earlier this year, Third Hemisphere announced plans to expand into APAC, hiring ex-M&C Partners chair and Stockhead co-founder Jonathan Younger as its advisory chair.

It was also recently chosen as the PR partner for Australian Payments Plus, which owns brands including BPAY, EFTPOS and PayID.
