Universal McCann’s Sneddon heads to Mediacom as group director
Mediacom has appointed Universal McCann’s James Sneddon to the role of group director, client communications planning. He replaces Wendy Gower who is leaving the agency to join UM to work on the Unilever account.
Sneddon will commence in his new role on April 26 and lead the accounts for the NSW Government and Audi.
At UM Sneddon worked on media strategy for the Federal Government where he was involved in briefs including skin cancer and binge drinking campaigns.
He has also previously worked at Ikon and Mindshare.
His addition follows last week’s announcement that Gemma Newland, managing director of TBWA UK’s branded entertainment arm and former MTV Networks Europe VP, had been appointed to head the new division MBA (Mediacom Beyond Advertising) which focuses on brand entertainment.
Other new hires are expected shortly, including a head of innovation and technology, a strategy director and an additional group director and director.
The creation of the new positions are part of Mediacom’s repositioning as a “real world agency” aimed at reconnecting with consumers.
I know it goes against the grain on this site, but I really like what Mediacom are doing in terms of resourcing/actions
I think that’s a fair observation, Ben.
There’s obviously still a way to go, but there do seem to be genuine signs of renewal.
Definitely worth putting Mediacom on the list of media agencies to be keeping an eye on.

btw – by ‘this site’ i meant reader comments not the editorial. just wanted to clarify.
I never dreamed that you meant otherwise, Ben…
