Vice Australia launches coming-of-age teen project, In Bloom

Vice Australia will launch a six-part video project in which young Australians’ burning questions about life online, school pressures, puberty, heartbreak and sexuality will be answered by “inspirational” peers.

The announcement:

VICE is excited to launch In Bloom — a teenage editorial project for young Australians (and beyond) that will see shared experience passed from peer to peer.

Exploring relationships, life online, school pressures, puberty, heartbreak and sexuality, In Bloom is an honest, informative and entertaining look at the tricky obstacles to be navigated when coming of age. Lead by a range of talent aged between 18-25 years old, In Bloom will come to life as a series of six video features, all filmed on mobile, with talent aiming to answer a range of questions submitted by the public in a way that’s frank, helpful, and speaks to their personal experience. While not expert advice, young viewers will hopefully walk away feeling supported and enlightened, with new tools to employ in their life.

In Bloom’s talent pool pulls from Australia, Canada, USA, London and beyond, featuring:

Lil (Flex Mami) – best known for her DJ-ing prowess (and hilarious one-liners), she’s an integral part of Australia’s youth and urban culture
Danzel (Baker Boy) – born in Darwin and raised in the remote Yurrwi communities, Baker Boy raps in Yolngu Matha language, and is the freshest new Yolngu hip-hop talent from the Top End
Celeste Mountjoy (Filthy Ratbag) – an acclaimed Melbourne Artist who focuses on modern society by turning contemporary life into intellectual satire
Eileen Kelly – the creator of Killer and a Sweet Thang, an online comprehensive resource for young people to discover, learn about and connect with their sexual health, pleasure and identity
Nevo Zisin – a Jewish, Queer, non-binary activist, public speaker and author of Finding Nevo, a memoir on gender transition
Louis Hanson – a writer, author and activist currently based in Sydney
Jesse Dutlow – a Melbourne-based singer and entertainer
Ruby Allegra – art student, make-up artist and founder of The They Them Collective, a gender diverse artist collective

All phases of In Bloom have been revised and discussed by a youth psychologist, ethicist, and youth experts, with safety and duty of care top of mind.
