Virgin Australia to pitch creative account

Australia’s second largest airline, Virgin Australia is pitching its creative account, Mumbrella can reveal.

The news comes three months after former Telstra marketer Inese Kingsmill was brought into the Virgin Australia Group as head of marketing and customer engagement.

Late last year, the airline decided to cut ad agency budgets, bringing its creative in-house with Michael Dole working on a contract basis, in an attempt to save $300m by 2019.

In his time in the role, Dole worked on the ‘Show Your Colours’ ad for Virgin Australia, which launched in the lead up to the AFL grand final in October.

The agency roster for the airline previously included Clemenger BBDO Sydney, Hulsbosch, Carat and Design Team, however, Mumbrella understands Clemenger BBDO has not worked on the brand for six months.

A Virgin Australia spokesperson told Mumbrella: “Virgin Australia continues to work with a number of agencies to service its marketing requirements.

“A pitch process involving a small number of agencies is currently underway and we will provide a further update as this progresses.”

Mumbrella understands the agencies that will be invited to pitch have already been selected.

At the time, Virgin Australia CEO John Borghetti said in the company’s AGM the brand was continuing to “drive a reduction of costs and created efficiencies in major contracts.”
