VMLY&R’s Paul Nagy elevated to APAC chief creative officer

WPP brand and customer experience agency, VMLY&R, has promoted Paul Nagy into a newly created regional role, as chief creative officer APAC.

Previously chief creative officer for Australia and New Zealand, the new role will see Nagy lead 21 offices across 10 countries across Asia and AUNZ, with the new remit of driving “greater creative consistency” for brands operating across the region.

Nagy joined Y&R as chief creative officer in 2017, and following the WPP merger of the agency with VML in 2018, was named as the first chief creative officer of VMLY&R Australia.

Mumbrella understands Nagy’s former role will not be replaced, but will be encompassed by the new role, which has been created in recognition of his achievements in the ANZ region.

Prior to his time at WPP, Nagy was executive creative director at Clemenger Sydney, where he spent five years, following a five-year stint at Clemenger BBDO in New Zealand.

Nagy said: “My job is a simple one – support the amazing talent we have in our network and let them be the best they can be. I’m incredibly lucky to work with such a talented team across Australia and New Zealand, and I’m already impressed with the capability and firepower we have across the rest of Asia. I’m absolutely thrilled to take on such an exciting, extended role.”

Yi-Chung Tay, CEO, VMLY&R in Asia added: “We are extremely excited and pleased to be working even closer with Paul in his new role. Those of us in Asia who have worked with him before know firsthand
his ability to bring substantial impact, not just to the creative work, but to the business and teams he works with. Paul has consistently been able to move the needle for VMLY&R, converting pitches into wins and delivering strong work that garners industry recognition. With Paul’s guidance and inspiration across APAC, VMLY&R will be swinging bigger this year.”

Thomas Tearle, CEO, VMLY&R in AUNZ commented: “Our momentum as a network is down in no small way to Paul’s energy. His unique perspective of combining creative excellence and innovation to solve client challenges coupled with his wonderfully infectious personality is such a great asset . He’s built a creative unit with Ben Davis, Jake Barrow and Kim Pick that has brilliant momentum. His appointment across Asia provides even deeper collaboration within our network, further reinforcing VMLY&R’s proposition of creating connected brands [not just for our clients but ourselves too.].”

Mumbrella has asked VMLY&R if there will be a local replacement for Nagy as he takes on a wider remit.
