Masterchef up above a million again, but 24 can’t hold audience

Singing proved a bigger draw than cooking among TV viewers last night as Channel 9’s The Voice comfortably held off Ten’s Masterchef to be the top rated show of the evening.The-voice

The Voice, now into its live ‘showdowns’, pulled in 1.32 million viewers, according to the OzTam overnight rankings, with Masterchef watched by 1.07m and down in seventh place. Both shows kicked off at 7.30pm.

In the news battleground, Nine also came top with 1.27m viewers in the first half an hour, falling to 1.19m from 6.30pm. Seven News drew 1.24m with Seven News/Today Night attracting 1.13m.

Nine’s ratings helped it capture a 24.8 per cent share of overall audience, ahead of Seven’s 17.2 per cent and Ten’s 11.9 per cent.

Seven’s fly on the wall reality series What Really Happens in Bali drew a disappointing 626,000, a sharp decline on the million plus who tuned in for the first episode at the end of May. It was the 19th most watched show of the night.

But it fared better than Ten’s 24: Live Another Day which drew just 329,000 and down in 28th place.

Ahn Does Brazil, which aired immediately before the Bali expose, and in the same time slot as The Voice and Masterchef, drew an audience of 626,00.

Meanwhile, just under 250,000 tuned in to see Alicia Loxley’s debut on Today, almost 100,000 fewer than the Sunrise audience. The Channel 9 presenter is standing in for Lisa Wilkinson for a month.

The ABC took 13.8 per cent with the ABC News at 7pm its top ranked show with 877,000 viewers followed by Australian Stories with 787,000.

Meanwhile SBS One’s coverage of the Tour de France stage three which finished in London overnight grabbed 182,000 viewers helping it to 5.1 per cent audience share.
