Walkley Awards finalists revealed
The Walkley Awards for Excellence in Journalism unveiled its shortlist for the 58th annual awards last night which included for the first time self-published writers in the online space.
Finalists were selected from 1335 entries by a panel of 100 senior members of the industry and announced at simultaneous events in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Walkley Advisory Board chair Laurie Oakes said that despite significant changes in the media industry, the standard of Australian journalism remains high.
“The quality and breadth of the work that came before the Walkley Advisory Board for final judging can only inspire great optimism about the future of journalism in this country,” he said. “Excellent journalism is not confined to major media outlets but is being produced across the board, as the list of finalists shows.”
