Walkley Week hits Queensland

Australia’s biggest night in journalism – The Walkley Awards – will be held in Brisbane this year as part of a week long event which will also include the return of the Media Alliance-organised media conference.

The awards, in their 56th year, will be back in Brisbane for the first time since 1999.

The week of activities kicks off on November 23. As well as the media conference, in its second year, there will be screenings of the Walkley Awards documentary finalists, training days, book signings and photography exhibitions.

The award take place on Sunday November 27 at the  Brisbane Convention Centre.

Walkley chair Laurie Oakes, Nine’s political editor, said: “I am very much looking forward to being there and I hope the nation’s media professionals will join me.”

Media Alliance federal secretary Christopher Warren said: “It’s been a big year for Queensland. As a result we have seen some inspiring, gutsy journalism from the state’s fine journalists. I can think of no better place to hold our Walkley Week.”
