Walkleys to include online journalism category
The Walkley Awards is to include a specific category for online journalism for the first time.
The change is one of several announced as part of the Walkley Foundation’s call for entries to Australia’s most coveted journalism awards.

Actually the Walkleys had an online category back in the late 1990s — tho it was called “best online or wire journalism”

It’s also the first time the Walkleys have provided an online system for submitting entries. This has been specifically created to make things easier for those submitting.
(Yes, I happily disclose, I am biased about the benefits because August built it. August is a digital agency of which I happen to be co-founder).
On that very fact – anyone submitting online in the Walkleys in any of the categories, please feel welcome to send through any direct comments or feedback to me for attention of myself and our technical team. If you have comments, run into any issues, or suggestions for improvement – any and all feedback welcome.
Send your comments to zoe.warne(at)august.com.au or phone + 61 3 9445 0326.

I remember the online journalism awards a few years back – it was really odd to see it disappear just as the medium was really taking off.
The fact the MEAA is actually acknowledging the huge number of people who work in this field may convince me to consider rejoining the union for the first time in almost a decade.
